The club is New Zealand's largest Aero Club - and you can opt to fly from either West Melton or Rangiora Airfield.

The Club:

Canterbury Aero Club was established at Wigram Airfield in 1928 and currently resides on the Western Apron at Christchurch International Airport.

Canterbury Aero Club is New Zealand’s oldest aero club and as such has a long and rich history to share. There is a strong club spirit and a warm, welcoming atmosphere with trips, social evenings and competitions being a regular occurrence.

Members come from a large variety of backgrounds some of whom have flown for years and are a wealth of knowledge providing invaluable experience and pointers for any pilot.

Airfields:

Rangiora

Rangiora (just 12 minutes flying from Christchurch) is a very active airfield that provides North Canterbury members with an excellent base to fly from and socialise.

The clubrooms are located halfway along the airfield road and are famous for the open fire, social atmosphere and relaxed environment.

West Melton

The West Melton airfield, just 6 minutes flying from Christchurch, is reserved for the exclusive use of the Canterbury Aero Club. This provides an area for our members to train in as well as a base to fly club aircraft from privately.

The welcoming clubhouse and 6-runway airfield are proudly maintained by members. West Melton provides an excellent place to hold regular social events where members make new friends and compare flying experiences. Families and friends are also very welcome.
