If you really need convincing...

The first of December is a day to mark in the diary. It’s a date to keep, a journey to start and a train to catch!

The Marlborough Flyer is making a picturesque trip this year, and you’re invited to join. See the historical locomotive for yourself - it was built in 1915 and named Passchendaele in 1917 (that’s 100 years ago!). The carriages that make up the train are from the same WWI period for a truly authentic experience.

Departure is from Picton Railway Station which is conveniently located across the road from the Picton i-Site. The 50-minute journey from Picton to Blenheim will include the challenging climb out of Picton on a 1-in-37 slope, the fourth steepest rail in New Zealand.

Disembark at Blenheim Station and explore Blenheim town centre at your leisure (shops, gourmet cafes and restaurants). A walk along the river is recommended! The steam train will then depart Blenheim for the return journey to Picton (75-minutes) where you can spend more time at your leisure.
